Trever Berg was brilliant in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The junior tossed a complete game shutout, striking out seven and allowed just four hits as the Falcon offense did just enough in the 1-0 win.
Back to back hits was all the offense needed for the Falcons (3-6) in the game. In the fifth inning Johnathan Bermudez singled up the middle and advanced to second on a throwing error by the second baseman.
Peyton Koopman ripped a double down the left field line scoring Bermudez for the only run of the game. Berg remained in control throught the final two innings, getting a big caught stealing in the sixth to hold down the victory.
In the second game of the day, the Hilltoppers (2-7) jumped on Falcon pitching early, scoring 11 runs before the Falcons got going in the fourth.
Devin Ferrari blasted a triple to right center field scoring Koopman and
Michael Clapperton.
Garrett Thornton followed with a two-run home run to left to cut the deficit to 11-4.The Falcons added another run in the fifth with a
Nick Hernandez double off the left field wall scoring Clapperton but that was as much as the offense could muster, falling 13-5.
Michael Clapperton went picked up a pair of hits on the afternoon and scoried two runs.
Devin Ferrari and
Garrett Thornton each had two RBI. Koopman finished the day with a hit, RBI, and run scored.
The Falcons next game will be tomorrow at 1 PM in the final game of the series.
