8/29/2019 8:49:00 AM

UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball Coach Josh Newman announced Thursday the final five singings to his 2019-20 team as the Falcons add five Division I transfers.

"I'm extremely excited to announce our 2019 – 2020 recruiting class," said Newman.  "Zane Gibson, AJ Holland, Jon Gilliam, and Levin Thornton did an outstanding job identifying and recruiting the type of student athlete that fit our culture.  I can't thank my staff enough for their relentless effort on the recruiting trail.  We have added a tremendously talented group that will be exciting to watch this upcoming season."

Carson Newsome played two seasons at Milwaukee. A 6-5 guard from Waukegan, Ill., he played in 12 games last season as a sophomore with the Panthers. He ranked fifth on Milwaukee, averaging 9.0 ppg with a season-high 26 points against Buffalo.

"Carson is extremely versatile and will impact the game on every level," said Newman.  "His size and skill set will allow him to play multiple positions and is sure to create match-up problems"

Donoven Carlisle played in all 30 games and started 20 games last season as a sophomore for the University of Denver. A 6-8 forward, Carlisle averaged 4.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game with the Pioneers. He scored in double figures four times last season, including 11 points in games against UC Irvine and South Dakota State, and had a season-best 13 rebounds against Omaha.

"Donoven's size, experience, skill and toughness on the glass will be exciting to watch," noted Newman.  "His ability to shoot the three along with his craftiness to finish around the basketball will make him difficult to guard."

Pat Dembley appeared in 30 games for Boise State last season. A 6-1 guard, he scored in double-figures six times for the Broncos as a junior, including a season-high 17 points against Illinois State. He averaged 5.5 points per game on the season for Boise State. Prior to arriving in Boise, he was a JUCO All-American at Iowa Western where he averaged 19 points per game.

"Pat is a natural scorer that can score on all three levels," said Newman.  "Besides being a prolific scorer and knock down three-point shooter, he can really defend and create havoc on the defensive end."

Elvin Rodriguez joins his teammate Donoven Carlisle in joining the Falcons from the University of Denver. A 6-1 guard, he appeared in 27 games last season for DU as a sophomore, averaging 3.8 points last season. He scored a season-best 16 points on 6-8 shooting against Fairfield.

"Elvin is an electric guard and sure to be one of the most explosive and athletic point guards in the league," said Newman.  "With a 42-inch vertical leap and quickness for days he will constantly put pressure on opposing defenses."

Jordan Horn comes to the Falcons after a season at North Dakota State. Horn, a 6-2 guard, scored a season-high 11 points against Duke last season as a sophomore and averaged 4.4 ppg in 25 games played.

"Jordan is a fantastic 3-point shooter with unlimited range," said Newman.  "Besides being a deep threat from behind the arc, he is an exceptional passer and play-maker off the dribble."
