UT Permian Basin men's and women's tennis picked up a pair of big victories Sunday afternoon as the Falcons returned home and each team swept Sul Ross 7-0 at the Permian High School tennis courts in Odessa.
The UTPB women dropped just four total games on the afternoon. The Falcons swept the three doubles matches 8-0, getting wins at #1 doubles from
Stephanie Prats/Madison Hoetling, at #2 doubles by
Jessica Madamba/Melissa Ariza, and a win at #3 doubles by
Paulina Obreque/
Anastasia Obreque.
Four singles matches ended in 6-0, 6-0 sweeps, with wins by Ariza at #1,
Julia Ramalho at #3,
Anastasia Obreque at #5, and Prats at #6. Hoetling added a 6-1, 6-1 win at #2, and
Maria Briones won 6-0, 6-2 at #4 singles.
The win was almost as controlling for the UTPB men. The Falcons got 8-1 doubles wins at #2 by
Marcos Silva &
Daniel Colmenares, and #3 from
Alex Quinones &
Jacob Harper.
Fernando Siqueira and
Jorge Garcia added an 8-4 win for the doubles sweep.
UTPB won all six singles matches, including three 6-0, 6-0 by Siqueria at #3,
Nakul Kumbria at #5, and
Diego Martinez at #6. The Falcons also got wins by Sanchez 6-1, 6-1 at #1, #2 from Delipe Dias 6-3, 6-0, and a 6-2, 6-1 #4 win by
Daniel Colmenares.
"It always feels good to get a decisive team win at home," said head coach Guillaume Gauthier. " We will take Monday off and look forward to getting back on the tennis courts Tuesday in order to get ready for Newman and Southeastern Oklahoma State this weekend in Dallas."
