UTPB men's basketball picked up its fourth straight win over the last two weeks Monday afternoon in a 110-101 overtime thriller against Oklahoma Christian in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The Falcons (8-2, 2-0) erased a 10 OCU lead coming out of halftime, tying the game at 12:48 of the second on back-to-back baskets by
Aiden Saunders to knot the score at 57-57.Â
UTPB kept the Eagles within range as the lead changed hands five times over the next two minutes, and the Falcons used a 14-2 run capped by baskets from
Dwayne Soders, Saunders, a pair of free throws from
Thomas Feeney and a 3-pointer by
Anthony Dees to take a 77-70 lead with 6:23 remaining in the second half.
Oklahoma Christian pulled the game back within one possesson by scoring the next six points, and eventually took tan 83-82 lead on a 3-point play by Kendre Talley with 2:41 remaining.
Feeney hit the back end of a pair of free throws to tie the game at 83-83 with 2:26 on the clock, and Talley and
Phadarius Taylor traded baskets for the game's 12th tie of the day at 85-85.
Dees came through for UTPB in a big way on the team's last possession of regulation, countering a jumper from John Moon with his third 3-pointer of the night to give the Falcons an 88-87 lead with just 24 seconds remaining.Â
Talley had a chance to end the game at the line with a pair of free throws, but missed the first and connected on the second to send the game into overtime.
The Falcons took over in overtime, hitting 7-of-9 field goals and 6-of-8 from the line in the bonus session as they out-scored Oklahoma Christian 15-4 to go ahead 105-96 in the eventual nine point win.
Dwayne Soders led six players in double figures for UTPB with 25 points on 10-16 shooting to go with a game-high 11 rebounds. Dees added 22 points, helped by a 5-of-9 day from behind the arc. Martin and Taylor each scored 17, shooting a combined 13-of-17 from the floor.
The Falcons handed out a season-best 23 assists, led by Feeney with nine helpers and Taylor with seven, both individual bests through 10 games.
Talley led all palyers with 31 points, and Jordan VanDeKop contributed 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting.
UTPB returns home in two weeks after the holiday break, hitting the court at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2 against Texas A&M International.
