The University of the Southwest proved to be too much for The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's tennis team as the Mustangs took four singles matches and won the doubles point for a 5-2 victory.
Josh Baker and Marek teamed up to beat
Meliton Morales and
Austin Fowler 8-6 at the No. 1 doubles before the Falcons tied the doubles competition at the No. 2 spot.
Alvaro Sifuentes and
Anthony Ellsworth cruised to an 8-3 victory over Richard Southern and Felix Singer. In the final match of the doubles competition, Teddy Yelley and Adam Foul clinched the point for the Mustangs as they took an 8-6 win over
Edgar Lazcano and
Adan Arbogast.
The Mustangs would add to their lead which proved to be too much for the Falcons to overcome, handing them their first loss of the season. Ondruj, Foul, Singer and Baker all took victories in singles play, with three of the four coming in straight sets.
At the No. 5 position, Lazcano pulled out a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (10-7) win over Southern, while Arbogast beat Yelley, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-7 at the No. 6 spot.
UTPB will head to San Antonio next weekend to compete in the Dok Skogman invitational hosted by Texas Lutheran before returning home on Oct. 16 for the final dual match of the fall season.
