ABILENE, Texas (September 20, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis team opened the season at the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboy Classic over the weekend.

UTPB and HSU played in four doubles matches and in eight singles matches on both Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19.

Overall, the Falcons were 4-4 in doubles and 11-5 in singles.

In singles, Philipp Gaurieder, Enrique Silveira, Sebastian Garcia and Yatharth Yadav were each 2-0. In addition, Yadav led the Falcons with a combined 4-0 record between both singles and doubles.

UTPB Head Coach Chris Tolson said, "I am very happy with our weekend and how our team competed. Our freshman, Jack Hansen-Ratter, got his first win, and Yatharth Yadav went 4-0 on the weekend. It was a great start to the year, and now we look to continue improving as we head into a D2 event at St. Mary's."

Next up for the Falcons will be the Brother Al Invitational on October 2-4, hosted by St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.
