HOBBS, N.M. – The University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's tennis team won four singles matches and two doubles contests as the Falcons took the best of seven match with the University of the Southwest 4-1.
In singles play,
Tiffany Mitchell got the Falcons on the board first with a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set win over Emily Flores at the No. 6 spot.
Olivia Baltazar matched Mitchell's performance with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own over Lesley Rodriguez at the No. 3 position.
The Mustangs kept the match close as Marisol Ramirez took a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles before
Ynez Sanchez made it 3-1 at the No. 2 spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lindsey Hoffman. Briegh Shotwell clinched the match for UTPB when Andrea Vinegas retired at the No. 1 spot. Vinegas won the first set 7-6 before Shotwell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second set prior to Vinegas bowing out.
Jordan Turner also picked up a victory, playing in the No. 4 spot as she took down Mary Thornton 2-6, 6-4, 7-6.
In doubles action,
Brittany Farmer and Mitchell, playing at the No. 3 spot, teamed to defeat Hoffman and Lisa Richardson, 8-2. The No. 1 doubles team of Shotwell and Baltazar took an 8-4 victory over Vinegas and Rodriguez.
