LONE GOAL LIFTS NORTHEASTERN STATE OVER WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM

Hisa Turner received a cross from Katie Valdez and her shot found the upper right corner of the net which proved to be the difference as Northeastern State took a 1-0 win over The University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's soccer team. 
 
The Riverhawks controlled the tempo offensively for most of  the first half as they took 16 of their 24 shots in the opening period.  In her second start this season, Alexis Frueh pulled in 11 saves, including seven in the first half. 
 
The Falcons did see an offensive surge in the second half as they took 10 of their 16 shots in the last 45 minutes with Hannah Dozier and Kaylen Gerkey taking a combined 12 shots.  UTPB was able to get six shots off on goal with Dozier and Gerkey taking two each. 
 
Turner's goal came at the 14:32 as the Riverhawks kept continuous offensive pressure nearly the entire first half.  Valdez was the bulk of the Northeastern State offense as she took seven shots, five of which were on goal while Turner took two shots, both of which were on goal. 
 
The Falcons will be off until next Thursday when they open Heartland Conference play against St. Edward's at 4 p.m. on the UTPB Soccer Field.
