Goode Hits for the Cycle in Baseball Slugfest

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin racked up 20 hits and 19 runs to defeat the University of the Southwest Mustangs Tuesday afternoon in Hobbs, NM. 19-10.

UTPB's Chandler Goode led all hitters as the junior hit for the cycle starting off with a lead off homerun in the first at bat of the game. Goode drew a walk, hit a double, a single and a walk before hitting a two RBI triple in his last at bat of the game in the ninth inning. Goode had two runs and five RBIs to go with his four hit afternoon.

Garrett Wolff, Ryan Giacomini and Trevor Stribling each had three hits on the day. Wolff added had four runs, two doubles with an RBI. Giacomini rounded up two runs, a double and an RBI to go with his three hits.  Stribling collected two runs and three RBIs on his three hits.

Jeremy Miller and evan Gattis rounded out the top hitters of the afternoon. Miller had two runs on two hits with a double. Gattis had two runs on a triple and a homerun to bring in four RBIs.

The Falcons ran threw five pitchers on the day starting with Casey Rana. Rana picked up the win to improve to 4-1 pitching two innings and allowing seven runs (all earned) on eight hits with two walks and no strikeouts. Elliot Gleason went three innings in relief giving up only one hit and striking out four. Zach Stiles went one complete giving up two runs (both earned) on three hits and two walks. Daniel Bernal pitched two innings picking up two strikeouts and allowing one hit. Rory Gray closed out the game giving up a hit and a run.

Next up for the Falcons will be a trip to Goodwell, OK to face Panhandle State University in a three game series starting with two games at 1 p.m. Friday March 2 and one game starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday March 3.
