Tammy Acosta knocked down six three-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points as the University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's basketball team took an 86-73 victory over Cameron.
Acosta was red-hot from downtown, missing just two from long range. The Falcons hit 10 three-pointers and collected 21 steals that resulted in 23 points.
The Aggies came out firing, hitting five three's in the first seven minutes of the game and led 28-13 with 13:05 to go in the first. Cameron would hold a double-digit lead until Miesha Blackshear knocked down a 10-footer with 5:46 to go before the break to pull the Falcons within eight (36-28). Blackshear was impressive in every facet of the game scoring 19 points, nine rebounds, nine steals and six assists.
Cameron knocked down 8-of-10 three-pointers in the first half and hit 51.7 percent from the field, but the Falcons closed out the first half with an 18-6 run over the final 5:46 and eventually took a 46-43 lead into the locker room at break.
The Aggies took back the lead briefly in the second half when Sabelle Diata hit a pair of layups to give them a 49-46 lead, but back-to-back three-pointers by Acosta and Missy Jackson gave the Falcons a 52-49 lead which they would not relinquish.
The two three-pointers jump-started a 17-6 run for UTPB which led to a 63-55 advantage with 13:16 to go. Both teams would exchange buckets until the Falcons closed out the game with an 11-6 run to seal the victory.
While Acosta was knocking down three's, Teisha King added 17 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
The Falcons improved to 11-3 on the year and will enter Heartland Conference play on Jan. 6 when they head to Laredo to take on Texas A&M International at 5:30 p.m.
