Volleyball – Outside Hitter (2005–2008)

Amithy Henry’s career at The University of Texas Permian Basin is one of the most dominant and decorated in Falcon volleyball history. A four-year starter, two-time conference champion, and multiple-time All-Region selection, Henry set the standard for excellence during the program’s transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II—and still holds nearly every major offensive record more than a decade later.

Arriving in Odessa in 2005, Henry made an immediate impact, earning First-Team All-Region and All-Conference honors in her freshman season as the Falcons advanced to the NAIA Region VI Tournament. As UTPB joined the NCAA in 2006, Henry’s production only grew. She was named Second-Team All-Heartland Conference in 2006, then followed that up with back-to-back First-Team selections in 2007 and 2008. As a senior, Henry earned Daktronics First-Team All-Region honors and helped lead UTPB to its first NCAA Tournament appearance after clinching the Heartland Conference regular-season title.

Henry was a true offensive force – described by her coach Steve Aicinena as “a terminator.” No player drew more defensive attention or impacted a match more consistently. Though NAIA stats are not included in UTPB’s official record book, Henry still totaled 2,028 kills across her career – nearly 700 more than the next closest player in program history. She owns the top-three single-season kill totals in program history, including a school-record 523 kills in 2007, and holds the program’s career records for kills (1,465 NCAA-recognized) and hitting attempts (4,083).

Henry’s performances were not just prolific – they were clutch. She posted a program-record 27 kills in a single match against Texas A&M International in 2007, and three times recorded 25 or more kills in a match. In addition to her offensive output, she was among the school’s leaders in service aces and hitting percentage, ranking fifth in both categories all-time.

A fierce competitor and team captain, Henry helped lead UTPB to Heartland Conference regular-season titles in both 2007 and 2008. She remains one of the most respected and feared hitters to ever wear a Falcon uniform – and a true pioneer for UTPB volleyball’s success at the NCAA level.
