ODESSA, Texas (September 21, 2026) – UT Permian Basin freshman kick returner Micai Thompson was named the Lone Star Conference Special Team Player of the Week after the Falcons' 66-7 win at Sul Ross State University.

Thompson started the second half with a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to help the Falcons cruise to a 66-7 road win over the Lobos. Thompson's return was the longest in the conference this season and just the second one taken back for a score. He also had three rushes for 15 yards on offense. 

With a record of 2-0 in the LSC, UTPB returns to action at Eastern New Mexico University. The action between the Falcons and the Greyhounds is set for 3 p.m. Central Time / 2 p.m. Mountain Time in Portales, New Mexico.
