Women’s tennis falls at home vs. St. Mary’s

MIDLAND, Texas (April 10, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis team faced St. Mary's University on Friday at Bush Tennis Center in Midland, Texas, and fell 7-0.

Mattea Bowe and Alyssa Glasgow defeated Breeze Simon and Selina Wu 6-4 at No. 3 doubles, but in the first doubles match, Fanny Bergstrom and Sophia Rashid fell 6-3 vs. the No. 37-ranked doubles pairing of Gia Posito and Alessia Terlizzi and No. 1 doubles.

In the final doubles match at No. 2 doubles, Peyton Jones and Paige Sitanggang fell 7-5 vs. the freshman team of Isabella Olsson and Sarah Wooten, giving the doubles point to the Rattlers.

Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets, and Terlizzi, Posito and Simon all kept their opponents off the scoreboard in one of the two sets.

The final two singles matches were the closest, starting with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat by Sitanggang against Wooten at No. 5 singles.

Lastly, at No. 3 singles, Rashid won her opening set in a tiebreaker before coming up short in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 1-0 (10-5), vs. Olsson, who completed the sweep for the Rattlers.

  • UTPB falls to 4-12 and 0-6 in the Lone Star Conference.
  • St. Mary's improves to 12-8 and 5-2. The Rattlers had started 4-0 in conference play before a pair of back-to-back 4-3 losses vs. No. 22 Angelo State University on Monday and at Lubbock Christian University on Thursday.
  • The Rattlers are 13-0 in their series history with UTPB, including each of the last three years in Midland, Texas.
  • The Rattlers were 17-4 during the 2025 campaign, advancing to the NCAA South Central Regional for the 11th time in school history. The Rattlers won a share of the LSC regular-season crown and hosted the regional while Director of Tennis Bill Macom earned LSC Coach of the Year for the first time at St. Mary's.

Next Up: UTPB will play its final two road matches of the season next week. First will be Western New Mexico University on Friday, April 17, in Silver City New Mexico, followed by Sul Ross State University on Saturday, April 18, from Alpine, Texas.
