Women’s tennis earns second straight win during Spring Break

RICHARDSON, Texas (March 9, 2026) – Coming off its first win of the season, the UT Permian Basin women's tennis team kept the good vibes going with a 4-0 win over Colorado State University Pueblo during its second match of its Spring Break trip on Sunday, March 8, at the UTD Tennis Complex.

Sophia Crosby and Peyton Jones won at No. 3 doubles for the second match in a row, winning 6-0 over Yelena Travica and MaKayla Martinez, and Sophia Rashid and Fanny Bergstrom did the same at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-3 over Margot Aebischer and Fernanda Martinez.

Mattea Bowe won for the second match in a row at No. 4 singles, defeating Travica 6-0, 6-1. That allowed her to tie Bergstrom for the most singles wins (4) among all players on the team so far this Spring season.

Rashid earned her first singles win of the Spring season with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Bella Hernandez at No. 3 singles.

Lastly, Dinethya Dharmaratne pulled out a win in a second-set tiebreaker, winning 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) over F. Martinez at No. 2 singles.

  • UTPB improves to 2-7 and is now 9-0 all-time vs. CSUP (1-10).
  • Earlier in the day, CSUP earned its first win of the season, 4-3, over Southwest Baptist University. It was the first for the ThunderWolves against an NCAA Division II school since earning a 7-2 win over Colorado Christian on April 7, 2018, a span of 2,892 days or seven years, 11 months, and one day.
