MIDLAND, Texas (March 4, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis played in its first home match and first Lone Star Conference match of the 2026 season on Wednesday afternoon at the Bush Tennis Center and fell 7-0 vs. Lubbock Christian University.
UTPB battled hard in the top-two doubles spots as
Sophia Rashid and
Fanny Bergstrom fell 7-5 against the No. 17 nationally-ranked doubles team of Andrea De Bernardo and AnaMaria Zoric at No. 1 doubes before
Dinethya Dharmaratne and
Mattea Bowe fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), against Oshini Herath and Alexandra Luders at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 3 doubles,
Alyssa Glasgow and
Paige Sitanggang lost 6-1 against Kristel Jativa and Ana Sofía Valero Treviño (No. 7 in South Central Region).
UTPB forced a third set in the final three singles matches.
Dharmaratne lost 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) in a third-set super tiebreaker vs. Zoric at No. 2 singles. During the Fall season, Zoric was ranked No. 34 nationally in singles and enters the Spring ranked No. 4 in the South Central Region.
Sitanggang lost 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-2) in a third-set super tiebreaker vs. Aitanna Moreno Villa at No. 6 singles.
Rashid fell 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) in a third-set tiebreaker against Herath at No. 3 singles. Herath is ranked No. 14 in the South Central Region.
At No. 1 singles, Bergstrom fell 7-5, 6-3 against De Bernardo (No. 18 in South Central Region).

The Lady Chaps previously opened the Spring season nationally ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first time in program history, debuting at No. 25 in the ITA Preseason Coaches Poll following their first NCAA postseason appearance a year ago.
