TYLER, Texas (February 22, 2026) – Still in the hunt for its first win of the season, the UT Permian Basin women's tennis team fell 5-2 against Southern Arkansas University on its third and final day at TJC Brookshires.
At No. 3 doubles,
Fanny Bergstrom teamed up with
Peyton Jones, who was making her first appearance of the Spring season. A 6-1 win by Bergstrom and Jones over Victoria Perez and Isabella Lazzerini forced the decider at No. 1 doubles, where
Dinethya Dharmaratne and
Mattea Bowe came up just short in a 6-4 defeat against Taylor Conway and Roksana Kokocha.
Bergstrom also earned a win in singles, coming out on top in three sets, 6-2, 0-6, 6-3, against Kokocha at No. 2 singles. Bergstrom finished a combined 3-0 in singles during the weekend for the Falcons. She personally accounted for half of UTPB's six singles wins across the three matches, with two of her three wins going to three sets.
In one of the final two singles matches to finish,
Sophia Crosby earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over Perez at No. 6 singles. It was the first dual-match win of the season for Crosby.
In the last match at No. 5 singles,
Paige Sitanggang fell 6-3, 6-1 vs. Conway, who won the Flight 5 Singles title at the Great American Conference Individual Championships this past Fall.
UTPB's closest losses in singles were a 7-5, 6-2 defeat for Bowe against Lazzerini at No. 3 singles and a 6-4, 6-2 loss for Dharmaratne against Jolina Mass in the top spot.

Team Records:
- UTPB falls to 0-6 while SAU, which was ranked second in Great American Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, earns its second win of the season (2-4).
- All six matches for the Muleriders so far this season have come against Lone Star Conference competition.
- The Mulerider women are coming off of a monumental 2024-25 season in which the unit was crowned the Great American Conference's regular season title and tournament champions after going on a perfect run in conference play. SAU also advanced to the NCAA Division II Central Regional hosted by Augustana University.
