TYLER, Texas (February 20, 2026) – The UT Permian Basin women's tennis team started its trip to Tyler, Texas, with a 6-1 defeat to No. 16 Mississippi College on Friday at Tyler Junior College.
UTPB was swept in doubles and fell in straight sets in five of six singles matches.
The doubles pairs of
Dinethya Dharmaratne and
Mattea Bowe (No. 2 doubles) and
Alyssa Glasgow and
Paige Sitanggang (No. 3 doubles) both fell 6-2 while in singles,
Sophia Rashid (No. 2 singles) and
Sophia Crosby (No. 6 singles) both fell 6-1, 6-2.
Coming back to earn a win in a third-set super tiebreaker at No. 3 singles was
Fanny Bergstrom, doing so with a score of 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-5) over Rune Van Wyk. It was the first point the Choctaws have lost so far this season (3 matches).

Team Records:
- UTPB falls to 0-4 while No. 16 Mississippi College improves to a perfect 3-0.
- Last season, the Choctaws women's tennis team captured its first-ever Gulf South Conference championship and reached the NCAA South Region Tournament. MC posted a 21-7 overall record (6-2 GSC). The Choctaws took down Valdosta State (4-0), Montevallo (4-0), and No. 1 West Alabama (4-2) to clinch the GSC title. In the NCAA Tournament, they knocked off Embry-Riddle (4-3) before falling to top-ranked Barry (4-1) in a hard-fought regional final.
Next Up: On day two of its trip to Tyler, Texas, on Saturday, February 21, UPTB will face Harding University.
