LAWTON, Okla. (January 10, 2026) – Trailing by three points at the half, the UT Permian Basin women's basketball team outscored Cameron University 22-17 in the second half and held the Aggies to single digits in each of the final two quarters to come out on top 49-47 on Saturday in Oklahoma.
UTPB (10-6 overall, 5-3 Lone Star Conference) opened the game with a 3-pointer by
Madison Walters on the very first possession, and then Walters' second 3-pointer three minutes later made it an 8-1 start for the Falcons.
Just over a minute later,
Kenadi Rising hit UTPB's third 3-pointer in the first five minutes of the game, making it 11-3, and then a turnaround jumper by
Mikalah Buckley just before the shot clock sounded made it a 10-point game (13-3) halfway through the first quarter.
Rising sank her second 3-pointer of the first quarter to make it 16-3 with two and a half minutes remaining in the opening period.
UTPB made four of its first six 3-point attempts of the game while Cameron made just one of its first nine shots, but then the Aggies made each of their final three shots of the quarter and scored nine straight points to end the period and cut their deficit to 16-12 after the first quarter.
Just like they did in the first quarter, the Falcons opened up the second quarter with a 3-pointer, this one the third 3-pointer of the game by Rising to make it 19-12. However, that would be UTPB's fifth and final 3-pointer of the first half.
UTPB turned it over five times while Cameron trimmed its deficit to three points three times in the first five minutes of the second quarter, lastly at 23-20 before back-to-back 3-pointers by Emmary Elizondo and Kloe Heidebrecht gave Cameron its first lead (26-23) of the game with four minutes left before halftime.
UTPB shot just 4-for-13 (30.77 percent) in the second quarter and trailed 30-27 after the break while Cameron shot 7-for-12 (58.33 percent) from the field and made three of its five 3-pointers in the period.
The Aggies also made five of their last six shots of the second quarter while UTPB went scoreless for the final 2:41.
That was followed by a low-scoring third quarter in which UTPB outscored Cameron 11-8 to tie the game at 38-38 entering the fourth quarter.
After a jumper by
Crystal Jones gave the Falcons a 38-36 lead, UTPB would go scoreless for the final 4:21 to end the third quarter while Cameron missed 13 of its last 14 shots in the period.
Cameron shot just 2-for-17 (11.76 percent) from the field in the third quarter while UTPB was 5-for-10.
It took nearly three and a half minutes for the first points of the fourth quarter as a turnover by the Aggies led to a runout by Walters for the layup.
Cameron would retake the lead with a 3-pointer two possessions later, but UTPB answered with a jumper from
Jonesha Neal on its next possession.
An offensive rebound and turnaround jumper by
Ja'Nya Thomas then made it 44-41 Falcons halfway through the fourth quarter.
With 4:19 remaining, Neal was fouled shooting a three, and drained all three shots to make it a four-point lead (47-43).
That would be UTPB's final points until the final 20 seconds of the contest.
With Cameron down 47-44 with under 50 seconds left, a tough over-the-shoulder layup by Aminata Diallo made it just a one-point game with less than 30 seconds to go.
A five-second call on the Falcons turned the ball back over to the Aggies with 27 seconds left and down by just one point. This time Diallo drove to the basket, lost her balance, and lost the basketball out of bounds, giving possession back to UTPB with 20 seconds on the clock.
The Aggies then sent
Jasmin Holt to the free throw line with 17 seconds left, where she sank both shots.
The Falcons fouled the Aggies with just two seconds left before they could get off a potential game-tying 3-pointer, and with Cameron attempting to miss the second shot intentionally, a line violation gave the ball back to UTPB. On the ensuing inbounds pass, the Falcons threw it down the court to Holt, who outran her defender to ran out the clock.
Both teams had just three made field goals in the fourth quarter and combined for just six points over the final four minutes of the game.
The Falcons scored 11 points in each of the final three quarters, which was enough to pull out the victory.
In all for the second half, UTPB held Cameron to just 5-for-28 (17.9 percent) shooting from the field and 2-for-8 (25.0 percent) shooting from three.
Walters would finish by tying a game-high with 10 points. Neal had nine points and a game-high nine rebounds and Rising had nine points on perfect 3-for-3 shooting from behind the arc.
Neither team shot better than 36 percent, both teams made six 3-pointers, and UTPB committed 21 turnovers while trailing 20-16 on points off turnovers. The Aggies also led the Falcons 34-31 on the boards and 10-7 on the offense glass.
