AMARILLO, Texas (September 30, 2025) – After watching two other freshmen lead the Falcons during the first two tournaments of the season, this time it was
Carlota Gutierrez's turn to pace the UT Permian Basin women's golf team at the annual West Texas A&M Fall Invitational at La Paloma Golf Club (Par 71 – 5,807 Yards).
The 15-team field featured: Odessa College, Adams State, CSU Monterey Bay, Western New Mexico, Garden City CC, New Mexico JC, Midwestern State, Cameron, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Lubbock Christian, West Texas A&M, Angelo State, Simon Fraser, UT Permian Basin and Chico State.
UTPB (300-304-314; 918; +66) started the tournament with a plus-16 during the opening round and ultimately remained in 10th place following all three rounds of the tournament.
One spot ahead of the Falcons was Lubbock Christian University (297-298-307; 902; +50) in ninth place while UTPB finished ahead of Lone Star Conference foes Western New Mexico University (309-302-312; 923; +71) in 11th place and Texas A&M University-Kingsville (301-311-312; 924; +72) in 12th.
At the top of the team standings, the hosts from No. 12-ranked West Texas A&M (289-282-286; 857; +5) finished in first place, four strokes ahead of No. 17-ranked Midwestern State University (282-290-289; 861; +9).
After the DBU Classic last time out, UTPB Head Coach
Paul Chavez made it a point of emphasis that he wanted to get Gutierrez going, and that is exactly what happened on Monday and Tuesday.
Gutierrez (74-75-77; 226; +13) shot just three-over-par during the opening round and finished tied for 31st place out of 82 golfers.
Lorena Etxeberria (75-76-79; 230; +17) was alone in 44th place.
After matching Gutierrez during round one,
Abigail Archunde (74-77-80; 231; +18) tied for 45th and was just one stroke behind Etxeberria.
After leading the Falcons during the first two tournaments of the season,
Lakshita Pragnya (77-76-83; 236; +23) was 60th.
Lastly,
Nat Armenta (84-83-78; 245; +32) improved to shoot seven-over during the final round and rose five spots to finish 70th.
Coach Chavez said, "I am extremely proud of our women's golf team for a top-10 finish in an elite field. These ladies are young, but very talented. Great things are in the future for Falcon women's golf."
The UTPB women's golf team will wrap up its Fall season at the Midwestern State Invitational, Monday-Tuesday, October 20-21, at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
