CORINTH, Texas (September 23, 2025) – After shooting 300 (+12) during round one at the DBU Classic, the UT Permian Basin women's golf team shot 302 (+14) during round two to finish with a two-round score of 602 (+26). Despite finishing round one just five strokes away from a potential spot in the top-five, the Falcons ultimately finished in 13th place out of 15 teams.
UTPB trailed the No. 19-ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis (301-300; 601: +25) by just one stroke in 12th place, and was six strokes out of a tie for 10th place.
Head Coach
Paul Chavez said, "Overall, I thought the ladies played well. We had some decent scores, but we need to get rid of our high-number scores. DBU is the top-ranked team in the country, so I thought it was good to show the ladies what it is like playing in a championship caliber tournament and give them a taste of that. With us having such a young team, I am going to stress on being more consistent, and I think that will help us produce better team scores."
The Falcons finished ahead of Henderson State University (306-303; 609; +33) in 14th place. No. 18 Saint Leo University (300-293; 593; +17), who UTPB was tied with in 11th place after round one, moved up to tie for eighth place in the end.
Two freshmen,
Lakshita Pragnya (73-74; 147; +3) and
Abigail Archunde (74-75; 149: +5), led the Falcons for the second tournament in a row.
In the field of 83 women's golfers, Pragnya was tied for 25th, Archunde was tied for 36th, and sophomore
Lorena Etxeberria (76-74; 150+ 6) tied for 41st.
Pragnya has shot 74 or lower in all four of her rounds so far as a collegiate golfer.
Archunde was tied for second in the tournament in par-3 scoring (2.75; -2).
Sophomore
Nat Armenta (80-79; 159; +15) had the best two rounds of her season so far and was 75th.
After a great start to her opening round, freshman
Carlota Gutierrez (77-84; 161; +17) ultimately finished 78th.
"Lakshita and Abigail are the two freshman I thought would play very well this year and make an impact right off the bat, and so far, they have done that," said Chavez. "Carlota played well, she just needs to be consistent with her game, and I need to get Natalia going again."
The UTPB women's golf team is back to compete for the third week in a row at the West Texas A&M Fall Invitational, Monday-Tuesday, September 29-30. The tournament is at the La Paloma Golf Course in Amarillo, Texas.
