SAN ANTONIO, Texas (September 15, 2025) – The University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis team competed at the Lilly Kimbell Memorial Invitational hosted by St. Mary's University on Friday and Saturday. The Falcons faced opponents from Our Lady of the Lake as well as Lone Star Conference foes St. Mary's and Western New Mexico.

UTPB finished 2-8 in doubles and 8-17 in singles.

In doubles, the freshmen duo of Philipp Gaurieder and Andrew Hunsley were 2-1. They won by a score of 6-3 over Louis Bocquet and Corentin Fusaro (OLLU) on Friday and 6-2 over Djamel-Dine Bey and Christopher Lund-Kuhl (WNMU) on Saturday.

In singles, sophomore Lucas Nakasato and freshman Nehal Naidoo were both 3-0 while also earning a win were freshman Kabir Chothani and Yatharth Yadav.

Six of UTPB's eight singles wins came on Friday. Nakasato went 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Corentin Fusaro (OLLU) and a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Diego Alvarez Canedo (StMU). Naidoo also went 2-0 with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 victory over Louis Bocquet (OLLU) and a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) win in a third-set super tiebreaker against Fabian Rosales (StMU). Chothani defeated Joao Santos (OLLU) by a score of 6-3, 7-5 and Yadav took down Colton Rogers (StMU) by a score of 6-4, 6-2.

Earning singles wins on Saturday were Nakasato with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over David Guta (WNMU) and Naidoo with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Djamel-Dine Bey (WNMU).

UTPB Head Coach Chris Tolson said, "It was a good tournament to start the year. Everyone had a great attitude and competed well. We have a good foundation we can build on and improve heading into ITA Regionals. Top performers on the weekend for the men were Lucas Nakasato and Nehal Naidoo winning their flights. It was great to see Lucas get off to a great start this Fall. Nehal is extremely talented and I look forward to working with him to see where we can take his game."

Next up for the Falcon men will be the ITA South Central Regional on Thursday-Saturday, October 2-4, hosted by Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.
