Vega, Krahofer highlight Falcons’ 2025 all-conference awards

ODESSA, Texas (April 30, 2025) – The UT Permian Basin men's tennis team had four athletes earn All-Lone Star Conference awards, highlighted by senior Jonathan Vega as a First-Team All-LSC selection in singles and the duo of Vega and fellow-senior Jonas Krahofer as a First-Team All-LSC selection in doubles. Vega was also named the LSC Co-Sportsmanship Player of the Year.

First-Team All-LSC (Singles) / Co-Sportsmanship Player of the Year / Sportsmanship Team:
Vega is 12-4 at No. 1 singles this season, including five wins over ranked opponents, and was 7-1 at No. 1 singles in LSC matches. He was named the LSC Player of the Week on April 2, 2025, after beating the No. 23-ranked and No. 11-ranked singles players in the nation as UTPB defeated No. 38 Cameron University 4-3 and then took out No. 15 nationally-ranked Midwestern State University 5-2 to start the year 2-0 in conference action. In a 6-1 win over Arizona Christian University (ranked No. 22 in the NAIA), Vega defeated Hugo Abril, the No. 8 nationally-ranked singles player in the NAIA, by a score of 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. In a 4-3 win over Harding University, Vega completed a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 comeback win over the No. 4 nationally-ranked singles player in the country, Cas de Ruiter, at No. 1 singles. Then in the final week of the regular season, Vega earned another top-10 win at No. 1 singles at No. 8 The University of Texas at Tyler, taking a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 comeback win over No. 6 nationally-ranked Carel Wessel. It was Vega's fifth win against a nationally-ranked opponent this season, and was his fourth win against an opponent who is currently ranked within the top-20 nationally in singles in NCAA Division II. In addition to beating No. 6 on Saturday, he also has wins over the players ranked No. 4 and No. 11 in the country at the time. Vega has been nationally ranked in each of the last five weeks and currently holds an ITA singles ranking of No. 25 in the nation, his highest ranking of the season.

Over his career, Vega is a four-time All-Lone Star Conference player in singles and a three-time all-conference player in doubles. He was last named First-Team All-LSC in both singles and doubles in 2022 as a player at Western New Mexico University. He has also been named Second-Team All-LSC twice in singles and once in doubles. In his first season at UTPB in 2024, he was named second-team all-conference in both singles and doubles. In addition to being named First-Team All-LSC in both singles and doubles for the second time in his career this season, Vega also earned the LSC Sportsmanship Player of the Year award for the second time in his career, the first time coming in 2022.

First-Team All- LSC (Doubles):
Vega and Krahofer are a combined 12-2 in doubles, including a record of 11-2 at No. 1 doubles, and were 6-2 at No. 1 doubles in LSC matches. Krahofer was named the UTPB Men's Student-Athlete of the Month for February after going a combined 9-1 (5-0 doubles; 4-1 singles) during the first month of the season. In a big 4-3 victory over No. 38 Cameron University, the second win in history for UTPB over Cameron, Krahofer and Vega won 6-1 in the top spot over the No. 26 nationally-ranked duo of Kristian Kubik and Lachlan Setina. Then in a 5-2 win over No. 15 nationally-ranked Midwestern State University, the first regular-season win in program history over the Mustangs, Krahofer and Vega defeated the No. 19 nationally-ranked doubles pair of Stephen Slocombe and Filip Vacula, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles. This Spring, Krahofer and Vega have been ranked as high as No. 18 in the nation in doubles, and are currently ranked at No. 30.

Honorable Mention All- LSC (Doubles): 
Senior Grzegorz Rudnicki and freshman Florian Kralik are a combined 8-4 in doubles, including a record of 7-3 at No. 2 doubles, and were 5-2 at No. 2 doubles in LSC matches. In a road match against No. 5 Lubbock Christian University, Rudnicki and Kralik won a 6-3 decision over No. 27 nationally-ranked Mattia Ghedin and Marco Seccia at No. 2 doubles. Rudnicki and Kralik were recently ranked No. 43 in the nation in doubles.
 

The Falcons will be back on the court at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 2, facing No. 5 Lubbock Christian University in the Lone Star Conference Tournament semifinals in Arlington, Texas. The winner of that match will move on to play in the championship round at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 3.
