ODESSA, Texas (March 5, 2025) – Four seniors from the 2024-25 UT Permian Basin men's basketball team earned All-Lone Star Conference honors on Wednesday.
Alex Matthews and
Dario Domingos were both named Second-Team All-Conference while
Maison Adeleye and
DJ Armstrong were named to the Third-Team. Each of the four players started in all 28 games for the Falcons this season.
Alex Matthews – Sr., Forward – Second-Team All-LSC
Matthews led the Falcons in scoring (17.0 ppg), rebounding (6.4 rpg), made field goals (160) and made free throws (138). He was also second on the team in blocks (18) and was third in assists per game (2.5 apg) and total steals (36). Matthews shot 84.1 percent (138-164) at the free throw line and 51.6 percent (160-310) from the field this season while making 18 of his 59 3-point attempts (30.5 percent). Matthews scored at least 20 points in a game seven times this season and has done so 11 times in his two years at UTPB, has twice recorded 13 rebounds in game this season, had four double-doubles during a six-game span earlier this season.
Just one game before his Senior Day, Matthews scored a season-high 31 points as UTPB earned an 80-58 home victory over The University of Texas at Tyler (1/20/25) on Thursday. It was the most points in a game for Matthews since scoring 32 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a 90-70 win at home over Western New Mexico University last season (1/6/24). In addition, it was the second time in his two seasons at UTPB he has made nine or more free throws without a miss after shooting 10-for-10 from the line in the contest before the WNMU game, a 79-76 win over Eastern New Mexico University (1/4/24). Matthews then shot 17-for-18 from the free throw line while scoring a game-high 27 points against No. 5-ranked Dallas Baptist University (2/22/25) during his Senior Day on Saturday.
He was named UTPB's Edgardo Madrid & Associates Men's Student-Athlete of the Month for December after averaging 15.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 steals and shooting 53.6 percent from the field across six games in December. He recorded a team-high in rebounds in five of the team's six games during the month. He was also named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, February 2, 2025, after averaging 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists to fuel a 2-0 week against Western New Mexico University and Sul Ross State University.
Matthews led the LSC this season in made free throws and ranked second in total minutes. He was 46th nationally in minutes per game. His other rankings in the LSC include coming in third in total points (476), fourth in free throw percentage and rebounds per game, fifth in scoring average, seventh in field goal percentage and made field goals, and eighth in offensive rebounds (68). In the UTPB record books, Matthews' 138 made free throws this season rank sixth while his 240 free throws over the last two seasons rank third all-time.
Dario Domingos – Sr., Center – Second-Team All-LSC
In his lone season at UTPB, Domingos was second on the team in scoring average (13.0 ppg), total rebounds (162), steals (37), made field goals (140) and made free throws (84). He was also third with 5.8 rebounds per game and 17 blocked shots, and shot 57.4 percent (140-244) from the field. He scored at least 20 points in a game four times this season and recorded four double-doubles. In the LSC, Domingos was second in field goal percentage, was third with 80 offensive rebounds, and was 10th in made free throws. In all of NCAA Division II, he ranked 43rd with 2.96 offensive rebounds per game.
His season-high in points in his one year at UTPB was a 30-point scoring performance at Western New Mexico University (1/5/25). In an 85-84 road win for the Falcons at Southeastern Oklahoma State University (11/26/24), Domingos hit the game winning free throws with 11.4 seconds left and finished with a season-high 16 rebounds and scored 21 points on 11-for-13 shooting from the free throw line. Then earlier this Spring, he hit the game-winning 3-pointer in an 87-86 victory at St. Edward's University (1/23/25). Domingos was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, December 15, 2024, after recording 15 rebounds, five steals and two blocks to lead UTPB to a pair of road victories over Oklahoma Christian University and Cameron University.
Maison Adeleye – Sr., Wing – Third-Team All-LSC
Adeleye led the team with 40 steals and averaged 12.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists this season. In addition to ranking second on the team with 78 assists, he was second with 28 made 3-pointers. He shot 122-of-275 (44.4 percent) from the field, 28-of-94 (29.8 percent) from three and 64-of-91 (70.3 percent) from the free throw line. Adeleye scored at least 24 points in back-to-back games twice this season, and has had eight 20-point games in his two years at UTPB. His career-high in scoring at UTPB came earlier this season against the University of Central Missouri (12/17/24) in the River City Holiday Classic when he scored 29 points. Adeleye was also named both the LSC Defensive Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week this season.
DJ Armstrong – Sr., Wing – Third-Team All-LSC
Armstrong averaged 12.3 points per game while shooting 117-of-269 (43.5 percent) from the field, 74-of-202 (36.6 percent) from three and 36-of-39 (92.3 percent) from the free throw line. He led the team in both made 3-pointers and in free throw percentage, and was third in scoring. In all, he scored at least 20 points in a game four times this season and has had seven 20-point games in his two years at UTPB. Earlier this season he scored at least 23 points in three straight games, including a career-high of 25 points at St. Edward's University in which he made seven 3-pointers (1/23/25), and was named UTPB's Edgardo Madrid & Associates Men's Student-Athlete of the Month for January. He led the LSC this year in minutes played and was seventh nationally in minutes per game. Also in the LSC, he was third in made 3-pointers per game (2.6), fourth in total 3-pointers (74) and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage. Armstrong finishes his career ranked fourth in the UTPB record books in made 3-pointers made with 154 across his two seasons as a Falcon.
