Falcons hit triple digits to take down War Hawks

ODESSA, Texas (November 18, 2025) – It was a total team effort as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team beat McMurry University 104-76 on Tuesday night inside the Falcon Dome.

UTPB (2-1) led the whole way, making 12 of its first 18 shots (66.7 percent) from the field and six of its first nine 3-pointers (66.7 percent) while leading by 19 points (35-16) with seven and a half minutes remaining in the first half.

McMurry tied to make a run to trim the gap late in the first half, closing to within eight points (41-33) with a minute and a half remaining before a pair of assists by Bryceson Burns on a 3-pointer by Brady Watson and a two-point jumper by Sharrod Taylor helped get the margin back to double digits.

UTPB shot 17-of-29 (58.6 percent) from the field and 50 percent (7-14) from three in the first half, leading by a score of 50-37. The Falcons had 13 assists on their 17 made field goals in the first half as well.

The Falcons outscored the War Hawks 15-4 to open the second half and led by 24 points (65-41) after an and-one by Marcus Burnett less than five minutes into the period.

A 3-pointer by Connor Morris with 12 minutes left made it a 25-point game (71-46).

Under the 10-minue mark, three 3-pointers by Taylor took the Falcons from a 74-50 lead to an 83-58 advantage in the span of less than two and a half minutes.

Just like they did in the first half, the Falcons opened up the second half by making six of their first nine 3-pointers.

UTPB's largest lead of the game was 28 points (80-52) after the second of Taylor's previously mentioned three 3-pointers, and it was a 27-point lead (85-58) after a steal and a fastbreak layup by Burnett, his first of back-to-back steals on back-to-back possessions.

The only question was whether or not the Falcons would reach 100 points.

An and-one by Tash Lunday got the Falcons to 90 points (90-70) with over three minutes left, and from there, Morris scored 10 straight points on a layup, two 3-pointers, and then a floater to reach 100 points (100-76).

Four Falcons scored in double digits, including two with 20-plus points, while three others had at least eight points.

Morris (game-high 25 points) and Taylor (21 points) both sank five 3-pointers and added four assists. Taylor was 4-for-4 from three in the second half while Morris was 3-for-7.

Lunday added 12 points, Burnett had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Rashad Kee was one point and one rebound shy of a double-double (9 points, 9 boards). Watson totaled nine points and Kainan Thomas added eight points as well while Burns led all players with seven assists.

"I thought we moved the ball well tonight with 23 assists," spoke UTPB Head Men's Basketball Coach Kyle Tolin. "We made a lot of shots, but I thought we moved it to the open man to get those shots. Both Connor and Sharrod shot well, and Kyle McElroy continues to be an anchor for us defensively and led us in plus-minus again."

The Falcons will now hit the road for their first away game of the regular season as UTPB takes on Lone Star Conference foe Sul Ross State University at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, in Alpine, Texas.
