Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Ricky Baptist, Sports Information Director

Men’s basketball falls at Sul Ross

ALPINE, Texas (November 22, 2025) – Bryceson Burns led all players with 17 points and Tash Lunday recorded his second double-double within the first four games of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds, but it came in a losing effort as the UT Permian Basin men's basketball team lost 67-61 in nonconference action at Sul Ross State University on Saturday.

Behinds Burns and Lunday, Rashad Kee scored 14 points, but they did not get much help as only three other Falcons entered the scoring column, each with five points.

There were seven lead changes in the first half as a 3-pointer by the Lobos in the final 10 seconds made it a five-point lead (35-30) for the home team at the break.

UTPB would never lead in the second half, trimming its deficit down to two points (46-44) on a 3-pointer by Sharrod Taylor with 11:13 to go, down to one point (48-47) on an and-one by Kee with 9:50 left, and down to one again (53-52) on a steal and a layup by Lunday with 6:23 remaining.

Starting over a minute later, SRSU's Manny Flores would hit a pair of 3-pointers before Burns and Kee answered each shot with a layup. Then a dunk by Antwonne Holmes assisted by Flores made it a five-point game (61-56) with three and a half minutes to go.

Thanks to a layup by Taylor, it would remain a five-point game (65-60) going into the final minute, and after the two teams traded turnovers, Burns would go 1-or-2 at the line to make it 65-61 with 37 seconds left.

The Lobos missed two free throws 10 seconds later, but Taylor missed his jumper with under 20 seconds remaining, and after Cameron Roper grabbed the defensive board and got fouled, this time the Lobos converted both shots at the line to close out the win.

Both teams shot 42 percent from the field, but the difference was 10 3-pointers on 27 attempts for the Lobos compared to four makes from long range for the Falcons. In addition, both teams only shot 10 free throws in the game.

This was the first win for the Lobos over the Falcons since November 23, 2010, in Alpine, Texas.

Next up for UTPB will be the Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo in Pueblo, Colorado. The Falcons will first play the host ThunderWolves at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time / 6:00 p.m. Central Time on Friday, November 28.
