WICHITA FALLS, Texas (October 5, 2025) – The University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis team continued its Fall season this past weekend at the ITA South Central Regional Championships at Midwestern State University.

The ITA South Central Regional tournament featured 65 total players battling it out in the singles and doubles draws as they looked to qualify for the ITA Cup in October. The main singles draw featured the top 64 singles players in the South Central Region, and the main doubles draw featured the top 32 pairs.

The ITA Regional provides major stakes in the biggest test of the Fall for the men's program. The winners of both the singles and doubles draws automatically qualify into next month's ITA Cup hosted in Rome, Georgia. 16 players and teams will make up the singles and doubles draws, with eight receiving automatic qualification. The remaining eight players and teams will be selected at-large, with those coming out of the pool of finalists and quarterfinalists from each regional site.

In the first round of the singles main draw, Joao D'Amorim defeated Snehin Yerragudi (UT Dallas) 6-1, 6-0 and Nehal Naidoo defeated Matthew Earle (Midwestern State) 6-1, 7-6 (7-1). However, in the round of 32, D'Amorim fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 against No. 4-seed Artiom Dorofeev (UT Tyler). Naidoo, meanwhile, lost in a three-setter, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (12-10), to the No. 14-seed, Andres De Los Rios Kolejewska (Lubbock Christian), who would go on to advance to the championship match.

In the singles back draw, UTPB won five of its eight matches in the first round and had two players advance to the quarterfinals. In the round of 16, Ayush Sharma defeated Mael Houee (WNMU) 6-4, 6-0 while in a matchup of two Falcons, Kabir Chothani defeated Enrique Silveria 6-3, 6-4. Then in the quarterfinals, Sharma fell 6-2, 6-3 to Aaron Ben Anton (St. Mary's) and Chothani lost 6-3, 6-2 against eventual champion Santiago Ledesma (Cameron).

In the doubles main draw, UTPB won three of its five matches in the first round. Naidoo/D'Amorim first defeated Zachary Hazel/Marton Szabo (Lubbock Christian) 8-1, but came up short, 8-6, against No. 6-seed Noe Milliard/Lukas Janousek (Cameron) in the round of 16. Sharma/Lucas Nakasato defeated Fabian Rosales/Aaron Ben Anton (St. Mary's) 8-7 (7-3) in a tiebreaker, but lost 8-3 against No. 5-seed Kelly Giese/Pablo Segura (Lubbock Christian) in the round of 16. Lastly, Chothani/Andrew Hunsley defeated Juan Luis Aguirre/Edward Shteyn (UT Dallas) 8-7 (7-1) in a tiebreaker before falling 8-2 to No. 8-seed Jordan Georgiev/Andres De Los Rios Kolejewska (Lubbock Christian) in the round of 16.

UPTB Head Coach Chris Tolson said, "I was proud of the effort of the guys this weekend. We really competed well. This is a tough event having to play four matches in one day, but our conditioning held up and we looked good, which is exciting. Top performers were Nehal, Joao, Ayush and Kabir on the weekend. Nehal and Joao both won their first matches before losing close ones to seeded players. Kabir and Ayush both lost first round to seeds but then came back and won two matches on the consolation side. Overall, it was a good weekend. We learned and we got better, and hopefully we can build on that in practice this week before playing our last event of the Fall at Texarkana."
