LUBBOCK, Texas - The University of Texas Permian Basin baseball team fell in a back-and-forth battle with Lubbock Christian, 6-5, at Hays Field in Lubbock, Texas on Friday at the Lone Star Conference Championships. The Falcons look to stay alive tomorrow against Angelo State in the double-elimination tournament.
Â
Jack Haggerty led the offense with a pair of hits while driving in two.
Ethan Flodstrom also drove in a pair in the effort.Â
Â
Haggerty was plunked on the very first pitch of the game. A stolen base and an error later he was on third with one out. A ground ball by Flodstrom allowed him to score and put the Falcons ahead 1-0. In the bottom of the inning, the Chaps scored a run thanks to an error and a wild pitch.
Â
The Chaps added a run in the second before the Falcons put a crooked number on the board in the third.
Carson Johnson walked and moved to second on a single by
Mason Hamlin. Flodstrom followed with a single to score a run and
Austin Hall followed with a groundout to take a 3-2 lead.
Â
Runs in the fourth and the sixth put the Chaps back in front heading into the seventh.
Clayton Coats started the inning with a walk before Johnson was walked to put two on. Haggerty then lined a triple into the rightfield corner to put the Falcons on top 5-4. The lead wouldn't hold as the Chaps tied it in the seventh before walking it off with a single in the ninth for the win.
Â
UTPB takes on Angelo State tomorrow in an elimination game at 11 a.m. The winner of that contest will face the loser between Lubbock Christian and Arkansas-Fort Smith at 7 p.m.
