Late Rally Comes Up Short as Falcons Fall in Game One to UT Tyler in Extras

UTPB outhit the Patriots in their first postseason game since 2019

ODESSA, Texas - The University of Texas Permian Basin rallied late in game one of the Lone Star Conference Championships but fell in extra innings, 7-3, against UT Tyler on Friday at Roden Field.

Trevor Barth was brilliant for UTPB, throwing 8.0 innings and allowing just three hits and one earned run. Jack Haggerty, Clayton Coats, and Carson Johnson all had two hits on the day.

The Patriots jumped on Barth early with a pair of hits in the top of the first to take the 1-0 lead. A walk, an error, and a wild pitch allowed the Patriots to plate another run in the third. The Falcon offense was quiet into the sixth where they put a pair on with two outs but couldn't push across a run.

Gibrian Pena walked to open the seventh before Taylor McDaniel and Coats followed with singles to load the bases. Caleb Boswell's sacrifice fly to center got the Falcons on the board with just one out. Johnson followed with another sac fly to center to tie the score at 2.

The score remained there until the ninth when the Patriots doubled home a run to retake the lead at 3-2. In their half of the inning, Coats got things going for UTPB with a one-out double. Pinch hitter Brandon Glowacki followed with a double to tie the score, eventually sending the game to extra innings. UT Tyler jumped all over Falcon pitching in the 10th, plating four runs for the eventual 7-3 final.

The Falcons look to even the best-of-3 series with the Patriots tomorrow at 12 PM.
