Falcons Win Seventh Straight in Rout of Aggies

UTPB racked up 13 runs on 13 hits on the afternoon

ODESSA, Texas - The University of Texas Permian Basin baseball team capped off a sweep of Cameron and ran their winning streak to seven with a 13-4 victory on Saturday at Roden Field.

Austin Hall and Carson Johnson led the offense with three hits each while Jack Haggerty and Ethan Flodstrom had two hits apiece. Flodstrom, Haggerty, Hall, Johnson, and Mason Hamlin all drove in a pair on the day. Graeme Rios led the Falcon bullpen, who pitched 7.1 scoreless innings, with 3.2 innings and striking out three. Jalen Johnston struck out four of the five batters he faced in back of him.

The Aggies jumped out to the early lead, scoring a run in the first and three in the second for the 4-0 lead. UTPB's bats woke up in the third. After the first two batters were retired, Hamlin got things going with a double. Flodstrom brought him home with a double of his own before Hall doubled to make it 4-2. A pair of walks loaded the bases for Brent Rigtrup who also worked a walk to cut the deficit to one.

The Falcons took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a groundball by Flodstrom and an RBI single by Gibrian Pena. In the fifth, UTPB added two more on a two-run home run off the bat of Johnson to go ahead 7-4.

UTPB continued to pour it on in the seventh after a sac fly by Hamlin and a wild pitch plated Flodstrom to make it 9-4. The floodgates opened up in the bottom of the eighth. Walks to Rigtrup and Brandon Glowacki, before Johnson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Haggerty doubled home a pair to make it 11-4. Hamlin followed with a sac fly and two batters later Hall drove in another run with a single to make it 13-4.

Next up for UTPB is a mid-week trip to Alpine, Texas to face future Lone Star Conference foe Sul Ross State.
