ODESSA, Texas - A late rally by the University of Texas Permian Basin baseball team led them to a 6-5 walk-off win over West Texas A&M in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Roden Field. The Falcons would fall 13-4 in the second game of the day.
Â
Jaden Wilcox was brilliant in relief in the win, throwing 6.0 shutout innings and striking out five to allow the Falcons to come back for the win.Â
Â
The Buffs scored first in game one for the early lead, but the Falcons responded in the second. UTPB put runners on second and third when a ground ball by
Victor Perez brought in
Gibrian Pena to tie the score.
Â
The teams traded runs in the third with Pena's RBI single, bringing home
Mason Hamlin, to make it 2-2. West Texas A&M plated three in the fifth to take the lead before UTPB battled back.Â
Â
Ethan Flodstrom's double in the fifth made it a two-run game and it stayed that way heading into the seventh. Hamlin singled home a run in the seventh and an intentional walk loaded the bases with nobody out.
Carson Johnson hit into a double play but plated a run to send the game to extra innings.
Â
The score stayed there until the ninth when back-to-back hit batters put a pair of Falcons on.
Payton Matthews ended the game with a single, scoring Pena, and securing the 6-5 win.
Â
The Buffs put away game two of the day early, with three runs in the first and another three in the second inning.
Taylor McDaniel drove in a run with a single in the second, Pena's sac fly brought home a run in the third, and Perez doubled home a run in the sixth, but the Falcons couldn't slow down the Buff offense.

UTPB and West Texas A&M wrap up a four-game set tomorrow at Roden Field with first pitch slated for noon.
