UTPB Battles To The End Against Pioneers

FRISCO, Texas – Everything was left on the court as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (24-7) lost 70-60 to #9 / #11 Texas Woman's (29-4) in the Lone Star Conference final, Sunday afternoon at Comerica Center.

In the first period, Texas Woman's tried to put the game away early.  The Pioneers led 9-2 at the 4:28 mark.

UTPB gritted its teeth and began to climb back in.  Senior Holly Hemmeline cashed in her long-distance calling card with 28 seconds left.

That closed out a 10-2 run to put the Falcons up 12-11.  TWU hit a 3-pointer of its own just before the end of the period to lead 12-11.

In the second period, UT Permian Basin kept right on the heels of Texas Woman's.  Senior Andreea Mancha put in two free throws.

That cut the gap to three, 21-18 at the 5:17 mark.  The Pioneers scored eight straight points to take control of the game.

UTPB took advantage of turnovers as they scored 23 points off 16 TWU turnovers.  The Falcons were strong on the defensive  boards with 20 defensive rebounds to just eight offensive for the Pioneers.  That allowed TWU to score just three second chance points.
