Falcons Battle Tough Against Buffaloes

ODESSA, Texas – Everything was left on the floor as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team (8-8 Lone Star Conference, 13-9) battled in a 76-69 loss to #1 West Texas A&M (15-0 LSC, 21-1), Thursday night at the Falcon Dome.

UTPB and West Texas A&M played on even terms for the first 12 minutes.  Junior Khalil Haywood hit a bucket to put the Falcons up 16-15 with 9:32 left in the first half.  The Buffaloes went on a 20-8 run over the last eight minutes to lead 35-24 at halftime. 

In the second half, WTAM pushed the lead to 14, 44-30 at the 15:35 mark.  UT Permian Basin began a slow but steady climb back into the game.

Junior Maison Adeleye hit two free throws to close the gap to two, 65-63 with 2:01 to go. West Texas A&M scored five in a row to finally take control. 

For UT Permian Basin, Adeleye had 20 points and was 10-of-11 from the line, senior Keyon Craddock scored 16 points and graduate student Lathaniel Bastian had 10 points.

For West Texas A&M, Ryland Holt had 19 points and Larry Wise scored 17 points.

UT Permian Basin remains home, Saturday, Feb. 10 hosting Lubbock Christian.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
