UTPB Has Tough Loss To Chaparrals

ODESSA, Texas – It was a heartbreaker as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team (8-9 Lone Star Conference, 13-10) lost 60-58 to Lubbock Christian (Receiving Votes) (13-3 LSC, 18-6), Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome.

UTPB took a 5-2 lead at the 18:26 mark.  Senior Keyon Craddock knocked down a rainbow shot with 18:05 to go.

That started a 20-5 burst to put the Falcons up 25-7 at the 8:54 mark.  UT Permian Basin maintained a lead of eight to 18 points the rest of the half, leading 32-24 at the break.

UTPB led 51-41 with 8:12 left in the game when Lubbock Christian began to march back in.  With 55 seconds left, the Chaparrals hit a 3-pointer to lead 57-56.

The Falcons worked it around and junior Alex Matthews hit a tough shot in the paint.  That put UT Permian Basin up 58-57 with 23 seconds left.

LCU knocked down another triple with seven seconds left.  UTPB came down and its final shot fell just short.

For UT Permian Basin, graduate student Lathaniel Bastian had 15 points and 15 rebounds, Matthews scored 14 points and junior Maison Adeleye had 10 points.

For Lubbock Christian, Tiras Morton had 25 points and eight rebounds.

UTPB stays home, Thursday, Feb. 15 hosting Midwestern State.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
