Falcons Drive Out Rattlers

ODESSA, Texas – Sophomore Cooper Ciesielski, senior Ethan Flodstrom and sophomore Mason Hamlin had three hits each as The University of Texas Permian Basin baseball team (3-1, Lone Star Conference, 3-1) beat St. Mary's (Texas) (1-3 LSC, 1-3) 15-5 in seven innings, Sunday afternoon at Roden Field.

In the first inning, Hamlin walked and moved to second a double by junior Jack Haggerty.  Flodstrom ripped a triple to left center field to score both runners.  Flodstrom would score on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

In the second inning, St. Mary's had runners at second and third with one out.  Junior Trevor Barth struck out the next two batters to end the threat.

In the bottom half, junior Carson Johnson led off with a home run over the left field wall.  Hamlin followed that with a shot over the fence down the left field line.  With two outs, Pena singled and would eventually score on a base hit.

The Rattlers would score twice in the third to make it 6-2.  The Falcons put up five runs in the bottom of the third to seal the game.

For UTPB, Hamlin had three hits, two home runs, scored four runs and drove in four runs while Flodstrom had three hits, a double and triple, scored twice and drove in three runs.  Barth (1-0) gave up nine hits, three runs with two earned and struck out eight in five innings.  

For St. Mary's, RJ Galvan had three hits.  Brennan Greer (0-1) gave up three hits, three runs, walked two and struck out two in one inning.

UT Permian Basin hits the road, Friday, Feb. 9 to take on Lubbock Christian.  The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
