UTPB Knocks Out The Patriots

DALLAS, Texas – Juniors DJ Armstrong and Alex Matthews scored over 20 points each as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team (12-9 Lone Star Conference, 17-10) beat #8 Dallas Baptist (16-4 LSC, 22-4) 97-88, Saturday afternoon at the Burg Center.

Dallas Baptist came out guns blazing, scoring the first eight points of the game.  UTPB came back with a 15-7 run.

Senior Keyon Craddock hit three free throws to tie the game at 15 with 13:51 to go.  Tied at 34-34 at 6:14 mark, Craddock hit a tough shot in the paint.  That started an 11-6 run to put the Falcons up 45-40 at halftime.

In the second half, UT Permian Basin continued to push the pace.  Craddock knocked one in from outside the house to put UTPB up, 59-48 at the 15:56 mark.

The Patriots refused to go down without a fight.   DBU pulled to two, 83-81 with 3:07 to go.  The Falcons scored the next six points to take control for good.

UT Permian Basin was hotter than the proverbial "hot knife through butter".  The Falcons shot 58.6% from the floor and 57.1% on 3-pointers.

For UT Permian Basin, Armstrong had 23 points, was 7-of-10 from the floor (all 3-pointers) and two steals and Matthews scored 23 points and was 9-of-14 from the floor.  Scoring in double figures as well was graduate student Lathaniel Bastian, Craddock and junior Zy Wright

For Dallas Baptist, Cameron Kahn had 22 points and Ricky Lujan scored 21 points.

UTPB closes the regular season, Thursday, Feb. 29 at home against Angelo State.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
