Falcons Turn Back Patriots

TYLER, Texas – All the parts of the machine were working in perfect harmony as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team (11-9 Lone Star Conference, 16-10) beat UT Tyler (2-17 LSC, 3-22) 75-52, Thursday night at the Herrington Patriot Center.

For the first four minutes of the game, UTPB and UT Tyler went back-and-forth.  Up 8-7 at the 16-minute mark, the Falcons went on an 11-4 run over the next three minutes.

Down 19-11, the Patriots started to creep back in the game, closing to 21-18 with 8:02 to go in the first half.  Junior Zy Wright hit a driving lay-up to start a run of 21 consecutive points to seal the game.

UT Permian Basin played tight defense holding UTT to 36.7% from the floor and just 13.7% from behind the arc.  The Falcons pulled down 32 defensive rebounds to just eight offensive for the Patriots.

For UT Permian Basin, junior DJ Armstrong had 15 points with four triples, graduate student Lathaniel Bastian had 13 points, two steals and blocked four shots, junior Maison Adeleye scored 12 points with eight rebounds and Wright had 12 points and three steals.

For UT Tyler, Nikolas Gustavson, Alec Zambie and Ryan Zambie scored 10 points each.

UTPB keeps to the road, Saturday, Feb. 24 playing #8 Dallas Baptist.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
