As we continue #BlackHistoryMonth, meet DJ Armstrong! DJ is a Junior Business Management major and a basketball player. He shares what Black History Month means to him. 

"Black History Month to me means a commemoration for both the progress made and the ongoing challenges faced by the Black community, including issues of racial injustice, inequality, and systemic obstacles." 

DJ celebrates his Black identity by reflecting on events and people that have influenced his life.  

"Celebrating my Black identity growing up hasn't really been anything outside of the ordinary, I mainly just focus on the who's and events that led to this point and pray to God, thankful for everything." 

What he loves most about UTPB is the welcoming and supportive environment. 

"The culture at UTPB is what I love the most. It feels welcoming and feels like everybody has your back. The supportive environment is great, especially for athletes like me." 

DJ leaves us with this quote from Shaquille O'Neal that speaks to him, "Excellence is not a singular act, but a habit. You are what you repeatedly do."
