Falcons Knock Down Rams

ODESSA, Texas –Senior Austin Hall had three hits as The University of Texas Permian Basin baseball team (Receiving Votes) (8-4, Lone Star Conference, 8-4) beat #3 Angelo State (8-4 LSC, 8-4) 6-5, Sunday afternoon at Roden Field.

Angelo State drew first blood scoring a run in the first inning.  In the bottom half of the inning, freshman Caleb Boswell reached on an error between outs.

Hall singled to right field to push Boswell to third.  Back-to-back walks forced Boswell across the plate to make it 1-1.

In the bottom of the second, junior Payton Matthews singled and stole second.  A sacrifice bunt moved him to third; Matthews scored on a single by junior Jack Haggerty.  That made it 2-1, UTPB.

Angelo State came back with a run in the third inning.  In the bottom of the third, Hall smacked a ground-rule double to right field.  He went to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2, Falcons.

In the bottom of the sixth, UT Permian Basin used two hits, an error, a walk and a wild pitch to score three runs.

The Rams made it interesting in the ninth scoring twice to make it 6-5.  With two on and one out, junior Brock Robarts got the next two batters to ground out to first base to end the game.

For UTPB, Hall had three hits while junior Carson Johnson and Matthews had two hits each.  Junior Trevor Barth (2-0) gave up five hits, two runs, walked one and struck out five in six innings.  

For Angelo State, Justin Harris and Tayten Tredaway had two hits each.  Derek Klosowski (1-1) gave up four hits, three runs with two earned, walked two and struck out one in two and one-third innings.

UT Permian Basin hits the road, Friday, Feb. 23, taking on Texas A&M International.  The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
