Falcons Fall Short Of Aggies

ODESSA, Texas – D2 CSC #25 The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (15-3 Lone Star Conference, 20-4) lost 57-55 to Cameron (8-11 LSC, 10-15), Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome.

The first four minutes of the game saw UTPB and Cameron play on even terms.  Down 5-4 with six minutes to go, the Aggies closed on a 16-6 run to lead by nine, 20-11 at the end of the first period.

Cameron led by at least six points the entire second period.  At the 8:23 mark of the third period, graduate student Alexus Quaadman hit a bucket.

That started a 13-2 run finished off by a driving layup from junior Avalon Munoz.  That put the Falcons up 34-33 with five minutes to go.

The teams went back-and-forth until 41-40 Aggies at the 2:20 mark.  Cameron closed the period with a 9-2 burst to lead 50-42 heading into the final period.

UT Permian Basin got a clutch triple from graduate student Kamryn Lemon with 53 seconds left in the game to make it 57-55, Aggies.  UTPB got the ball back and had a shot go in and out at the buzzer.

For UT Permian Basin, senior Andreea Mancha had 13 points and two steals, Lemon scored 10 points, Munoz had nine points and five assists and Quaadman had nine points and 14 rebounds.

For Cameron, Katie King had 14 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

UT Permian Basin hits the road, Thursday, Feb. 22 playing UT Tyler.  The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
