UTPB Has Record Day At RMAC

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Senior Evan Siegrist broke a record and picked up another NCAA B Cut as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's swimming & diving team closed the RMAC Championships, Saturday at El Pomar Natatorium.  The Falcons finished the meet with five NCAA "B" Cuts, the most under head coach Betsy Graham.

Colorado Mesa scored 1153.50 points to win by 464.50 points over Colorado School of Mines.  Rounding out the top five were Oklahoma Christian (3rd – 636 points), Simon Fraser (4th - 596 points) and UTPB (5th – 413.50 points).

Siegrist was seventh in the 1650-yard freestyle with an NCAA "B" Cut of 16:02.65.  With the NCAA altitude adjustment, his time of 15:42.65 broke the school record of 15:59.41 that he set in 2022.  Siegrist hit "B" cuts in the 1000 free and 400-yard IM as well.

Additional scoring in the 1650 came from sophomore Owen Putnam (12th – 16:27.17) and junior Niklas Heelein (14th – 16:36.73).  After the adjustment, Putnam's time of 16:07.17 is fifth fastest in UTPB history.

On the 1M board, senior Matthew Lenzo scored 492.55 points to finish in fourth place.  Right behind him was sophomore Tristan Negrete (5th – 361.15 points) and freshman Andrew Pritt (6th – 321.50 points).

Placing fifth was the 400-yard freestyle relay of Heelein, freshman Colin Doyle, junior Szymon Gilzynski and senior Trevor Heath (3:06.63).  Heelein swam 45.89 on the opening leg, the third fastest 100 free time in program history.

In the B finals, Powell was 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.60), senior Daniel Bednarski was 11th in the in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.44), Heath tied for 12th in the 100 free (46.02), junior Legend Jankowski was 14th in the 200 back (1:56.78), freshman Zane Garner was 15th in the 200 back (1:56.88) and freshman Chase Alderman was 16th in the 200 breast (2:10.86).
