UTPB Runs Down Mustangs

ODESSA, Texas – Senior Holly Hemmeline got a school record and milestone victory as #25 The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (15-2 Lone Star Conference, 20-3) beat Midwestern State (6-12 LSC, 6-18) 76-53, Thursday evening at the Falcon Dome.

This is the just the third time in program history that UTPB has won 20 games in a season.  It also extended the Falcons' winning streaks to 10 in a row and 12 straight at home.  Both streaks are second best in school history.

For the first 15 minutes of the game, UTPB just couldn't knock down Midwestern State.  The Falcons would go up by six or more to see the Mustangs rally back.

Up 30-25, sophomore Khiara Flugence hit a tough shot in the paint with 3:49 to go in the second period.  That started an 11-1 run to seal the game.

For UT Permian Basin, Hemmeline scored 18 points with four triples, graduate student Alexus Quaadman had 13 points, 13 rebounds and blocked two shots and senior Andreea Mancha had 11 points with three 3-pointers.

Hemmeline became just the third player to score 1000 points.  She now has 1015 points.  Hemmeline also pushed her career 3-pointers made to 239, breaking the record of 236 by Lauren Unger (2009-12).

For Midwestern State, Zionna Barbee scored 10 points.

UT Permian Basin stays home, Saturday, Feb. 17 hosting Cameron.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
