GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Senior Evan Siegrist broke a school record as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's swimming & diving team closed out Day 3 of the RMACChampionships, Thursday at El PomarNatatorium.
Colorado Mesa has scored 589 points and leads Colorado School of Mines by 259 points. Rounding out the top five are Oklahoma Christian (3rd – 302 points), Simon Fraser (4th - 272 points) and UTPB (5th - 210 points).
Siegrist was swimming like a fish in the 400-yard IM, resulting in him finishing with - unknowingly at the time - a school record, as his time of 4:04.28 would be converted to 3:59.28 due to the NCAA altitude adjustment. The previous school record had been 4:01.55 set by Siegrist in 2023. Additionally, that time earned him sixth place and it hit the NCAA B Standard.

On the 3M board, senior Matthew Lenzo scored 475.45 points to finish in fourth place. Right behind him was sophomore Tristan Negrete (5th – 397.70 points) and freshman Andrew Pritt (6th – 279.95 points).
Placing fifth was the 400-yard medley relay of freshman Zane Garner, junior Nathan Powell, junior Szymon Gilzynski and senior Trevor Heath (3:25.02).
Gilzynski was sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (49.23). His time was second fastest in school history.
In the B finals, freshman Colin Doyle was 11th in the 100 fly (50.59), sophomore Owen Putnam was 12th in the 400 IM (4:05.43) and junior Niklas Heelein was 16th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.89).
UT Permian Basin is back at the RMAC Championships, Thursday, Feb. 15. Prelims start at 10:00 a.m. with finals at 5:30 p.m.
