Falcons Earn NCAA B Standards

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Junior Niklas Heelein and senior Evan Siegrist recorded NCAA B Standard times as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's swimming & diving team closed out Day 2 of the RMAC Championships, Wednesday at El Pomar Natatorium.

Colorado Mesa has scored 288 points and leads Oklahoma Christian by 92 points.  Rounding out the top five are Colorado School of Mines (3rd – 194 points), Simon Fraser (4th - 145 points) and UTPB (5th - 94 points).

Placing fifth was the 200-yard medley relay of freshman Zane Garner, freshman Chase Alderman, junior Szymon Gilzynski and senior Trevor Heath (1:33.19) and the 800-yard freestyle relay of Heelein, junior Ivan Torres, senior Daniel Bednarski and junior Legend Jankowski (6:57.86).

In the 1000 free, Heelein was 10th (9:36.11) and Siegrist was 11th (9:38.70).  Both times hit the NCAA B Standard.

In the 50 free, Heath was 12th (21.00) and Gilzynski was 13th (21.20).  Gilzynski's time cracked the top 10 in UTPB history.

UT Permian Basin is back at the RMAC Championships, Thursday, Feb. 15.  Prelims start at 10:00 a.m. with finals at 5:00 p.m.
