Falcons Pick Up Milestone Victory

ODESSA, Texas – A school record and milestone victory were achieved as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (Receiving Votes) (14-2 Lone Star Conference, 19-3) beat Lubbock Christian (11-5 LSC, 16-7) 57-52, Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome.

This was the first win over the Lady Chaps in program history.  It also extended the Falcons' winning streaks to nine in a row and 12 straight at home.  Both streaks are second best in school history.

The first 20 minutes of the game was a tight affair.  UTPB and Lubbock Christian were trading buckets.  The Lady Chaps led 30-29 at halftime.

With 3:15 left in the third period, sophomore Makala Bingley hit a tough shot in the paint.  That started an 8-3 run to put the Falcons up 47-39 going into the fourth period.

The game seemed to be locked up with UT Permian Basin up 55-45 at the 2:43 mark.  The Lady Chaps began to creep back in and closed to 55-52 with 30 seconds left.  UTPB hit two free throws to seal the game.

For UT Permian Basin, senior Andreea Mancha had 18 points, three triples and was 7-of-8 from the line while juniors Morgan Helgesen and Avalon Munoz scored 10 points each.

Graduate student Alexus Quaadman pushed her career games played total to 111.  That breaks the record of 110 held by Tammy Acosta and Lauren Unger (2009-12).

For Lubbock Christian, Audrey Robertson scored 20 points.

UT Permian Basin stays home, Thursday, Feb. 15 hosting Midwestern State.  The game is scheduled to start at 5:15 p.m.
