Falcons Soar Over Mustangs

SILVER CITY, N.M. – Junior DJ Armstrong and senior Keyon Craddock each scored at least 20 points as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team (8-6 Lone Star Conference, 13-7) beat Western New Mexico (1-12 LSC, 3-15) 107-79, Thursday night at Drag's Court.

UTPB came out fast and furious.  The Falcons got off to a 24-11 lead by the 12:18 mark. Western New Mexico began to creep back in and tied the game at 40 with 3:06 to go in the first half.

Junior Maison Adeleye hit a tough shot in the paint at the 2:50 mark.  That started a 25-4 run over the next seven minutes that sealed the game.

UTPB lit it up shooting 52.1% from the floor and 47.1% from behind the arc.  Defensively, the Falcons held the Mustangs to 28.6% on 3-pointers and had 26 defensive rebounds to just five offensive for WNMU.

For UT Permian Basin, Craddock had 27 points, shot 8-16 from the floor and hit five triples, Armstrong had 20 points, was 7-14 from the floor and made six 3-pointers, junior Alex Matthews scored 18 points with 11 rebounds and Adeleye scored 18 points.

For Western New Mexico, Prosper Obidiebube scored 17 points.

UTPB keeps to the road, Saturday, Feb. 3 taking on Eastern New Mexico.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. MT
