ODESSA, Texas (December 9, 2024) – Fifth-year guard
Taysha Rushton of The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
Taysha Rushton averaged 26.5 points over a pair of LSC wins, opening with 15 points in the 71-54 win over Texas A&M International and then pouring in 38 points in the Falcons' thrilling 87-79 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Rushton's 38 points vs. TAMUK are the most scored by an LSC player this season as well as the third most scored in UTPB history, the most scored by a UTPB player since 2012, and the single-game high for a Falcon against a LSC opponent. Over the two games, the senior guard shot 51.7 percent from the field (15-of-29), including 10 three-point field goals, and 13-of-16 at the line (,813), adding eight assists, four steals and five rebounds.
UTPB Head Coach
Rae Boothe said, "This is a well-deserved honor. Taysha had an amazing week. She is an incredible player that followed her 38-point night with getting right back to work. She brings it every day, has fun doing it, and does whatever it takes for her team to be successful."
Next up, the Falcons will play on the road for the first time this season in conference action as UTPB heads to Oklahoma Christian University on Thursday, December 12 (5:30 p.m.), and Cameron University on Saturday, December 14 (1 p.m.).
