ODESSA, Texas (November 19, 2024) –
Natalia Salas,
Kristel Chaves and
Vasoula Flaouna of The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team were each named to the 2024 Academic All-District® Team, selected by College Sports Communicators.
Natalia Salas is a junior midfielder and is a management major with a 3.95 cumulative GPA. She has started in 35 of 45 matches in her first three seasons at UTPB, including all 17 matches this season. This season, she had four points (1 goal, 2 assists) in UTPB's 6-2 win at Wayland Baptist University (9/19/24). Salas tied for the team lead with two assists this season and has three career goals at UTPB. Salas was one of three UTPB players to play in all 17 matches in 2023 and was one of three players to start in all 17 matches this season. Last season, she scored her first collegiate goal vs. Colorado Christian (9/7/23) and had the game-winner against Eastern New Mexico (10/25/23).She has been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and UTPB Dean's List in each of her first four semesters at UTPB (Fall 2022, Spring 2023, Fall 2023, Spring 2024) and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma.
Kristel Chaves is a senior defender and is a human performance major with a 3.56 GPA. Chaves was named Third-Team All-Lone Star Conference for the 2024 season. She has started in 39 of 45 matches in her three seasons at UTPB, including all 30 matches over the last two seasons. Despite playing on the defensive end, Chaves finished her 2023 season with six goals and five assists. She had a goal and an assist in three consecutive games: Midwestern State (10/18/23), St. Edward's (10/21/23) and Eastern New Mexico (10/25/23). She also set the season records for assists (5), goals (6) and points (17) since UTPB joined the Lone Star Conference. Chaves was named First-Team All-RRAC, was a member of the RRAC All-Tournament Team, and was the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week at Louisiana Christian in 2021. She has been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of the last three semesters at UTPB (Spring 2023, Fall 2023, Spring 2024).
Vasoula Flaouna is a graduate student midfielder. 2024 was her lone season at UTPB. She scored her only goal as a Falcon in the win at Wayland Baptist (9/9/24) and earned the start in each of the final 11 matches of the season. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Economics and Finance) from American International College (Springfield, Mass.) in the Spring of 2024 and is now enrolled in the MBA Program at UTPB.
The 2024 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on December 11.
