LAREDO, Texas (September 23, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team fell 2-0 on the road at Texas A&M International University on Wednesday morning.
UTPB (4-4-0 overall, 1-4-0 Lone Star Conference) was held to one shot in the first half while TAMIU (2-6-0, 2-3-0) shot five times in the first 15 minutes of the match and then scored its first goal in the 23rd minute when Arianna Arboleda's shot deflected off the right hand of the Falcons' goalkeeper and went in off the left post.
UTPB's lone shot in the first half was off target by
Molly King in the 25th minute.
In all,
Valeria Delgado made five saves on eight shots faced in the first half, but less than 1:30 into the second half, Ida Kolaric got control of the ball just a few yards outside the top of the box and fired a shot that just snuck in over the outreached right hand of Delgado to make it 2-0.
After missing off the right post in the seventh minute of the match and having each of its next three shots saved by Delgado early in the first half, similar events occurred in the middle of the second half as TAMIU nearly added to its lead with a third goal. This time, the Dustdevils' Julissa Gonzalez hit the left post in the 73rd minute before back-to-back saves by Delgado over the next three minutes.
Delgado played all 90 minutes for just the second time this season and finished the match with a season-high nine saves. It was the third match out of five in conference play this season with at least seven saves for Delgado.
The Falcons were responsible for the first shot attempt after the second goal by TAMIU (
Cassandra Ramirez; 48th minute) and the very last shot of the match (
Abigail Symon; 84th minute). None of UTPB's three shots in the match were on target.
It was the third time so far this season in conference play that the Falcons have been held to either one shot or no shots in the first half, and was the third time they have been held to five shots or fewer in a match. Conversely, it was UTPB's fourth time in the last five matches conceding at least 20 total shots, and was its third time in conference play allowing double-digit shots on goal.
For the second week in a row, the Falcons will finish off the week at home, this time against the University of Texas at Dallas starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 26.
