ODESSA, Texas (November 14, 2024) – Senior defender Kristel Chaves of The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team has been named Third-Team All-Lone Star Conference for the 2024 season.

Chaves has started in 39 of 45 matches in her three seasons at UTPB, including all 30 of her matches over the last two seasons and all 16 of her matches this season. She was one of five Falcons this season with at least 16 starts.

In 2024, Chaves was third on the team with 27 shots and 14 shots on goal. In addition, UTPB recorded four shutouts this season and held its opponent to one goal or less 10 times.

Despite playing on the defensive end, Chaves finished her 2023 season with six goals and five assists. She had a goal and an assist in three consecutive games: Midwestern State (10/18/23), St. Edward's (10/21/23) and Eastern New Mexico (10/25/23). She also set the season records for assists (5), goals (6) and points (17) since UTPB joined the Lone Star Conference.

She is the third Falcon to earn an all-conference honor in the last four seasons. Tatiana Leggiero was named third-team all-conference last season (2023) while one of Chaves' current teammates, Hayley Sawyer, was named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year while also earning a spot on the all-conference and all-freshman teams in 2021.
