KINGVILLE, Texas (October 26, 2024) – UT Permian Basin's 2024 women's cross country season came to a close Saturday in the Lone Star Conference Championships, hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville at Dick Kleberg Park in Kingsville, Texas.
Senior
Alauna Stackhouse was 92nd with a season best time of 25:51.44.
Juniors
Nayeli Galindo (26:56.55) and
Kayla Cepeda (27:18.63) were back-to-back in 100th place and 101st place. It was a season best time for Galindo and was a new personal record for Cepeda.
Junior
Julie Tejada (29:42.68) and senior
Miranda Hernandez (30:14.50) rounded out the field in 109th and 110th place.
Head Coach
Melanie Ramirez spoke about the ending the season, "Ending our season on the most positive note possible, this team showed their true grit and determination. With two season best times and two personal best times, they pushed their limits and set a new standard. I'm incredibly proud of each runner's hard work and resilience. For our seniors, it's been an unforgettable journey, and I can't wait to see the incredible paths they'll forge in the future."
West Texas A&M claimed a repeat LSC Women's Cross Country championship and fourth overall title behind a sweep of the top-three individual places. The Lady Buffs totaled 17 points, sparked by individual medalist Sarah Koomson (20:32.16), Naomi Addo (second, 20:44.85) and LSC Newcomer of the Year Kalkidan Vincendeau (third, 20:54.30).
DBU finished second among the 13 teams. Midwestern State placed third (113) and was followed by St. Edward's in fourth (145). LSC Freshman of the Year Kinley Kite (15th, 22:09.57) paced Oklahoma Christian to fifth place (150).
Texas A&M-Kingsville (157), Cameron (159), UT Tyler (181) and Angelo State (256) finished 6-7-8-9, respectively. Lubbock Christian (281), Western New Mexico (308), Texas A&M International (350) and UT Permian Basin (407) completed team scoring.
